Beauty Day

Anyone reading this that knows Miss Anne Baker will completely understand the following story. Anne is a 5th grade girl in my class this year and in all my 15 years of teaching, there has never been anyone quite like Anne (in a good way). Her journal entries are out of this world "good" and I look forward to reading hers everyday to see what is going on in Anne's life or the lives of the whole Baker family. One Wednesday, Anne came to school dressed like no other. She was decked out from head to toe, long hair curled and even a hint of lip gloss. I learned later that day, when reading Anne's journal, that she had declared Wednesdays as "Beauty Day" (aka Dress-Up Day). She thought everyone, including herself, should put a little extra effort into looking extra nice one day a week and she decided Wednesdays was the perfect day. She never made this known to the adults in the building, I just learned of "Beauty Day" via her journal. We decided that we would grant Anne's wish the following Wednesday and here is what we got.......

My daughter is a genius. Kylie received her grades and she got a 4.0 this semester. So proud. I can barely pronounce her classes, let a lone get an A in one of them. She has a long road ahead of her but I think she is well on her way. Look out world ready or not.....here comes Dr. Heying!

Growing Up Too Fast!

Today is my sweet, baby girls 9th birthday. There aren't words to describe the joy she has brought us. She's what made our family complete. Happy Birthday Kassidy Paige. I love you.

Annual Orearville Chili Supper

Last night was the famous "Orearville Chili Supper". This is a supper that is put on by the PTO and is the major fundraiser of the year. For this reason, I always feel the need to do my part, as I am both a teacher and a parent at this wonderful little school. The question that crops up in my head each year is, how do other parents think this supper happens? Do they ever stop and wonder:
How collects all the BINGO prizes?
Who sets up the BINGO game?
Who shops for all the supplies?
Who sets up all the tables and chairs?
Who decorates the gym?
Who makes the soup?
Who makes the chili?
Who prepares the drinks?
Who makes all those delicious desserts?
Who sends all those cakes for the "cake walk"?
Who washes all those dishes?
Who puts all those tables and chairs up?
Who cleans the gym floor?
Who gets there at 9:00am and walks out at 10:30pm?
Let me answer these questions... it's NOT you! It's us busting our a**es, while you are sitting on YOURS playing BINGO! (winning all the prizes that we collected!)
